Chuck was our Best Man

Here are a couple memories from us about Charles who we always called "Chuck".  Richard & I were the first of their "gang" to get married, so Chuck was our best man & when he & Jan married,  Richard was his best man. We helped them move into an apartment when they first were married.  A mutual friend, Dean Gordon (small guy compared to Chuck & Phil & Felix) also helped & after said he would never help anyone move again!

I will never forget meeting Chuck , Phil & Felix the first time.  They were  all so tall & full of themselves !  But in a good way.  We always had a wonderful & fun time whenever we would all gather.  Chuck & Jan, Felix & Brenda Peckinpaugh, Phil & Betty Southworth, Dean Gordon & whoever he was dating at the time. We would take turns gathering at each others homes or sometimes a campground.

One year Chuck & Jan decided to go camping at Versailles, Indiana . Deborah was probably a year old, our first son was going on two, & I was VERY pregnant with our second.  We planned to stay the night in their tent, which we did, but then it started raining.  Chuck & Richard dug a trench around the tent to divert water which might have worked with less rain...  needless to say we almost got washed away!  Our escape was to go to nearby Greensburg & barge in on Phil & Betty Southworth at their new home to get dried out & continue to just have a party which is what we did.

The photo I am attaching was taken in Milton, Indiana in 1960 or 61 in front of Richard's house which obviously was across the street from that Pilgrim church.  Chuck is on the passenger side front, Felix in driver's seat & Richard in back.  They would go to the "Crystal Ballroom " up near Greenville, Ohio to dance & pick up girls.  Their drink of choice was Sloe Gin or Peppermint Schnapps !  They used to have some pretty wild times from the stories Richard has told me.  All of us used to go up to the ballroom after we married, your grandparents loved to dance & were  always on the dance floor!

We will miss them & all the fun we used to have.
